Anne Malcolmson's "A Taste of Chaucer" is, without a doubt, the best Chaucer book for middle-school students. Not only does it include nine of the twenty-four Canterbury Tales in readable, modern English, but it also contains notes and introductions by Malcolmson -- and what's more, avoids the ruder tales that some pre-teens are just not ready for.
In fact, there is only one reason why a child would not read this extraordinary book -- it's out of print!
However, that is about to change. Dr Kat Patrick, homeschooling mom and founder of Dreaming Spires Home Learning, was frustrated when she could not locate enough copies of the book for her online students. Unwilling to use an inferior selection of Chaucer's work or an uncensored version, she tracked down Anne Malcolmson's relatives and obtained permission to re-publish the book as an eBook.
We're so excited to think that this wonderful book will soon be available for children all over the world, but we have one more hurdle to jump -- illustrations.
We are asking school-age children, pre-teens, and teens, to submit illustrations that may be chosen to illustrate this new e-edition. If you or someone you know would like to draw a picture for consideration, then please pop over to the submissions page to read more about what we're looking for. Also, be sure to read the terms and conditions.
Don't worry if you think you're not very good at drawing -- we're hoping for a wide range of ages and abilities to make this truly a students' edition.
Deadline is 15th September for your entries.
